“Grasping faithful home organization”, I want you to understand my motivation for a clean and organized house. If my motivation for having a clean and organized house stopped at the utility of it, or the look and feel of it, there would be days I’d be less than motivated.
In 1 Corinthians 14:33 Paul tells the church in Corinth that “God is not a God of disorder, but of order”. While Paul is talking to them about church services, I am reminded that we are “the temple of the Holy Spirit”.(1 Corinthians 6:19)
The church is not a building but a people, so I truly believe God values when we are motivated to do things well and with order in our own homes. In my heart it is an act of worship to God.
This helps keep me motivated. I know it can seem overwhelming to begin any home organization project, especially if it’s been a while since you have tackled it. I’m here to tell you, it can be done!
The Benefits
In addition to it honoring God, I believe an organized home is an asset you can’t afford to neglect. When our homes are organized we can more efficiently and peacefully complete our daily tasks. Here are just a few things that benefit from an organized home:
- Getting dressed in the morning
- Cooking Dinner
- Doing Taxes
- Paying bills
- Remembering important dates
- having more time with the people you love
- Keeping household items stocked before you run out of them
- Hosting guests
- Having your mind free to complete your work
- It displays a respect and gratitude for the things God has Blessed us with
- It communicates intentionality that will likely spill over into other areas of your life
Finding time to organize
The thought for keeping things organized always seems to come at the moment where it’s not. And we really need it to be. This begs the question, how do I find time to organize?
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time my friend. My answer is taking it in small doses. I believe almost anyone can find 10-20 min to go through a stack of papers or drawer. Sure, some drawers, closets and shelves take more time and thought. Remember one drawer organized is better than none.
Realizing the benefits
An organized closet will have to (I’m sorry to say) get organized again. If it is done on a semi regular basis, it won’t be as overwhelming. When you truly experience the benefits a well organized home supplies, you will have no problem finding time to do it. You will also understand why God is a God of order, He can get a lot more done, and so can you!
Brushing my teeth is a priority because I know if I don’t, my teeth will fall out of my head. The thought of eating solely soft foods for the rest of my life motivates me to brush my teeth everyday.
In my opinion, home organization is the same.
